I couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather, or a more perfect birthday. Thanks to everyone that came out! Read the story by clicking here
To celebrate the once-in-a-lifetime event of reaching the third decade of my life, I have decided to try to get the best of both my home cities in one place. Having my birthday party on the Guadalupe River Comal River floating on a tube and drinking beer all day sounds like the best way to celebrate such an occasion, and I would love it to spend it with all my favorite people. That’s YOU!
Details for the party are on the About page, you can find the map and driving directions on the Directions page, and links to area attractions in New Braunfels and Hotel Accommodations can be found on the Links page.
Leave your comments below letting me know if you’re coming, or if you just want to leave a nice, funny, or embarrassing memory of me:
See you on August 4th!
UPDATE 7/30/2007:
As of today, the military has closed down the river Guadalupe for all tubing/rafting so they can let some of the water out of the lake. The turbines will make the pull from the river way too fast to make tubing safe, hence the closing.
The good news is that the river Comal is and will still be open for tubing (barring any bad weather). So instead of River Guadalupe, we get River Comal. The Comal river is a little more calm than the Guadalupe, but about half as long. We can run one trip around and if we’re all up for it we can go around again, time permitting.
The plans for the after-party have changed as well. Since no one is getting a hotel, instead after the trip in the river we are going to break for 3-4 hours and meet back up in Austin for a little 6th Street drinking. This will also serve as the primary “alternate” plans in case it starts raining Saturday day.
I’ll see you all soon!

Can’t wait to float the ‘lupe for your 30th!
Holy Loyly, look who’s . . . wait - I guess I have to wait another ten years for that one!
Hehehe…I’m just glad you’re first.
So do we have to whistle Colonel Bogey’s March the whole time?

Yes. Yes you do.
Okay, maybe just while we walk down to the River.
hey, I’m down to throw in on a hotel in NB, have you looked into anything yet? Or shall we attempt the drunken carpool conga line down the highway to your house?
I’m sending out some reminders for those I haven’t heard from yet, and once I get some responses back I’ll decide on the hotel room. It really depends on how many people from out of town plan on getting a hotel, and where.
Stay tuned!
i actually had to check out the wiki link, then ask a Brit colleague to whistle the tune before I recognized it! Now I will be prepared when we are whistlin’ down the river.

I don’t as of yet have an embarrassing memory, but I’ll make one up: Remember that time we were at Wendy’s and Crystal told the joke about the midget and the ostrich? It was a Kodak moment, my friend, when your DP-Frosty came shooting out of your nose and all over my baked potato and chili… yeah… good times.
Hahaha.. Yes, I demand more of these.
I remember the time that we were at my house and Haggis came over. And Jinny said something off-color, and Haggis pretended to get offended. And I did random carpentry. And Smokin’ went out back to imbibe. And Haggis joined him. And then we went to Denny’s. I think the most embarrassing part of this is that it happened every weekend for 3 years, and no one seemed to notice.
On a serious note, Jinny has been diagnosed with Mono (a.k.a. Epstein-Barr Virus, Roseanne Barr Virus, kissing disease, not-so-chronic fatigue syndrome). I don’t know if we will be able to attend at this time. She probably won’t be over the symptoms completely by then.
Hahahaha.. Oh my god. So freakin true, but makes me all nostalgic.
I miss the 1:30am coffee and pancakes trips. Good times.
Hmmmm…embarrassing memories of Haggis…
The trouble with this is that there are plenty of memories, but I was never the designated rememberer. Too much imbibing since then.
One thing that does spring to mind is the “No, Haggis, bad Haggis!” incident. That was just about the funniest thing I had ever seen.
Hehehehe, good times.
I still have no idea what was on my pants. Something nasty enough to make Jinny react like that.
It was really the fact that she was scolding me like the dog that was so funny. I half expected her to swat me with a rolled up magazine.
UPDATE:
I’ve checked with a couple of the tube rental places in New Braunfels about the River levels and speed. They both told me it takes about 2 1/2 hours, and is still perfectly safe and calm.
On one website it lists that the military is coming in to try to reduce the levels in the lake–which has an effect on river drainage–but may postpone.
I’ll keep you all updated as we get closer!
Updates on the party posted to the home page!
Comal or guadalupe? The title of the page says Guadalupe, but the website header says comal. which is it?
It says Comal on my screen!
Also: read the “UPDATE” at the top of the page. It has all the info and changed plans there.
so is this new map accurate for the rafty place?
The “picture” map on the directions page isn’t, but the clicky-map and the driving directions are all for the new location.
dude, I sent an email out to like 30 people at work with the wrong directions and the bad picture map. They’ve all left the office at this point. I am cool like that.
So, I guess that means more beer for us, eh?
D’oh! Well luckily the Comal location is only a couple blocks away, so they’ll either figure it out or you’ll get a couple dozen angry phone calls. XD
Had an AMAZING Saturday, thanks to our friend Haggis! So much enjoyed meeting everyone — hope we can all hang out again soon!
